The State That Thinks You’re Stupid

By AmyButtermaker

New Jersey politicians must think we’re complete fucking idiots.

Back in June, they proudly announced $20.2 million in taxpayer-funded legal defense for eligible immigrants.

Now the same state admits thousands of noncitizens were mistakenly registered to vote, and when the Department of Justice asks for the information needed to investigate, Trenton suddenly develops a severe allergy to transparency.

What the fuck are you hiding?

If this was nothing more than a bureaucratic mistake, hand over the records. End the speculation. Restore public confidence.

Instead, they circle the wagons.

Here’s the part that should piss off every taxpayer in this state: the legal defense program New Jersey already funded could end up representing some of the very people caught up in the state’s own registration fiasco if they qualify through immigration proceedings.

Read that again.

The government creates the mess.

You pay for the mess.

Then you may get stuck paying for the lawyers dealing with the fallout from the mess.

You couldn’t write satire this absurd.

Meanwhile, New Jersey families are getting crushed.

Property taxes through the roof.

Electric bills through the roof.

Insurance through the roof.

Young families can’t afford to stay.

Businesses are leaving.

People are fleeing to states that don’t treat taxpayers like an ATM with a pulse.

But somehow there’s always another $20 million lying around when Trenton wants to virtue signal.

Amazing.

The issue isn’t whether mistakes happen. Every government screws up.

The issue is what happens next.

Honest governments open the books.

Dishonest governments hide behind talking points, refuse oversight, and hope the news cycle moves on before anyone notices.

If nobody voted illegally, prove it.

If safeguards failed, explain exactly how.

If crimes were committed, prosecute them.

That’s called accountability.

Instead, New Jersey’s political class expects you to shut the fuck up, keep paying the bills, and accept, “Trust us.”

No.

You’ve spent years proving why nobody should blindly trust you.

Government doesn’t answer to party bosses.

It doesn’t answer to bureaucrats.

It doesn’t answer to politicians desperate to avoid embarrassment.

It answers to the people who pay for every damn dollar it spends.

Until Trenton remembers that, the biggest pile of excrement in New Jersey isn’t sitting in a landfill.

It’s sitting in the State House.
