What the Fuck Happened at RAF Fairford?

I have been following the RAF Fairford story since five men were arrested near a U.S.-used air base in the middle of the fucking night.

And somehow, ten days and seven arrests later, I understand less about what happened than I did that morning.

That is not because nothing has been reported.

It’s because every new piece of information seems to create three new fucking questions.

We started with what sounded relatively straightforward: three suspicious vans apparently traveling toward RAF Fairford. A member of the public calls 999. Armed police descend. Five men are arrested under the Explosives Act. Bomb disposal arrives. A 400-meter cordon goes up. Roughly 85 households are evacuated. Counterterror police take over.

Possible terrorist attack on an air base used by American bombers.

Got it.

Bit of a sticky wicket, innit?

Except apparently we did not have it.

Because one of the five men who would later be arrested reportedly called 999 himself.

Before the farmer did.

Sorry.

What in the spotted dick is going on here?

Then police announce there weren’t actually explosives in the vans.

There was petrol.

Right.

Well, that’s gone a bit tits-up.

Except the five men weren’t simply sent home with a biscuit and a stern British tutting. They were released on bail while the terrorism investigation continued.

Then the farmer who encountered the vans says there were definitely more than five men there.

Oh, brilliant.

So we’ve apparently misplaced some blokes.

Then another man is arrested.

Then another.

We’re at seven fucking arrests now.

This investigation is collecting suspects like they’re fucking Tesco Clubcard points.

And somehow that isn’t even the most bonkers part.

Because hours before those famous white vans generated the 999 calls, a family was apparently just trying to play some fucking cricket near RAF Fairford when armed guards stopped the game, told them there was a “live incident” and said the area was unsafe.

Imagine popping out for a casual bit of cricket and RAF security essentially tells you:

Sorry lads, bit of terrorism about. Off you fuck.

And this happened before the vans.

Before the farmer.

Before the arrests.

Before the public knew there was supposedly a terror plot unfolding beside an American bomber base.

So what the bloody hell was the live incident?

Then there is RAF Lakenheath.

While all of this was unfolding, another U.S. air base in England was sitting at FPCON Charlie, an elevated force-protection posture used when intelligence or circumstances indicate terrorist action is likely.

Maybe the two things are completely unrelated.

That is entirely possible.

But nobody has publicly explained what triggered Lakenheath’s heightened posture either.

Lovely.

Two bases. One unexplained threat posture. One mystery live incident. Three vans. A bunch of blokes. And absolutely fuck-all resembling a coherent public explanation.

Bob’s your uncle.

Then the story gets even bigger.

The British government says there are “strong indications” Iran played a role.

The United States moves the B-1 bombers out of Fairford.

And Donald Trump—the President of the United States—acknowledges:

“We had a threat.”

At this point, we have officially left slightly dodgy vans in Gloucestershire and entered what the actual bollocks is happening territory.

Because somebody apparently believed there was a threat serious enough to move American strategic bombers.

The British government believes Iran may have been involved.

Seven people have been arrested.

Counterterror police are still investigating multiple lines of inquiry.

And yet we still don’t publicly know something incredibly basic:

What the fuck was supposed to happen?

Were those vans the attack?

Were they surveillance?

A dry run?

A distraction?

Were they connected to whatever triggered the earlier “live incident”?

Was the feared threat something entirely different?

Why did one of the suspects call the police himself?

Who directed whom?

What did investigators know before Sept. 27?

What triggered Lakenheath’s Charlie posture?

And why exactly did the United States decide the B-1s were safer somewhere else?

I’m not asking MI5 to fax http://Jagaloons.com the classified intelligence packet.

I’m not completely daft.

There are intelligence sources to protect. Evidence to preserve. Suspects who haven’t been charged. Operational details that legitimately should remain secret.

But come the fuck on.

There is a rather large gap between protecting an active counterterrorism investigation and the public trying to understand how we got from a family being booted off a cricket pitch to the President of the United States acknowledging a threat and American bombers leaving Fairford.

That’s not nitpicking.

That’s a bloody enormous fucking gap.

And this is where people need to resist the temptation to fill that gap with whatever theory they already want to believe.

We do not know that Fairford and Lakenheath were responding to the same threat.

We do not publicly have the evidence behind the Iran assessment.

We do not know exactly what investigators believed those men intended to do.

And we certainly don’t know how every bizarre piece of this timeline fits together.

That’s precisely the fucking point.

We have two bases.

An unexplained elevated threat posture.

A “live incident” hours before the event supposedly began.

Three vans.

Petrol but no explosives.

A future suspect calling 999 himself.

A farmer saying there were more men than police initially arrested.

Seven arrests.

A British government pointing toward Iran.

An American president acknowledging a threat.

And American bombers leaving Fairford.

Maybe there is a perfectly coherent explanation connecting all of this.

Lovely.

Someone might want to bloody well explain it.

Because until then, RAF Fairford isn’t merely a confusing terrorism investigation.

It is a WEAPONS-GRADE CLUSTERBOLLOCKS.

And I’m still asking the same question I was asking when this whole bloody circus started:

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED AT RAF FAIRFORD?
