A PRIEST KILLED BY A CRUCIFIX. SOMETHING DEMONIC? AND ARE WE LIVING IN THE END TIMES?
October 23, 2026 | Opinion
I’m Catholic. I’ve spent my entire life looking at crucifixes.
They represent suffering, sacrifice, redemption, and the victory of Christ over death.
They are not supposed to become the instrument that kills the priest standing beneath them.
And yet, that is what reportedly happened in Ecuador.
On October 17, Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, 53, was celebrating Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Guayaquil when a massive crucifix behind the altar fell forward, striking him in the head.
He died from his injuries.
And the circumstances are absolutely haunting.
MINUTES BEFORE HIS DEATH, HE WAS PREACHING ABOUT DEATH.
Father Sánchez had reportedly been reminding his congregation that our time on Earth is limited. That God and family deserve more of our attention than money, work, and the endless distractions of everyday life.
He spoke about the inevitability of death.
And minutes later, he was gone.
Jesus Christ.
I cannot get past that.
And I especially cannot get past what killed him.
A crucifix.
The very image of Christ’s sacrifice.
Now, I understand gravity. I understand structural failures. I understand that accidents happen.
But I’m also Catholic.
I believe in God, Jesus Christ, angels, Satan, and demons.
Not metaphorically. Literally.
So when a priest is standing at the altar, preaching about mortality, and moments later a massive crucifix falls and kills him, I’m going to ask the question.
WAS THERE SOMETHING DEMONIC ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT CHURCH?
Because I’m sorry, but the symbolism is fucking disturbing.
A priest. During Mass. Preaching about death. Killed by the image of Christ crucified.
Of all the things that could have fallen in that church, it was the crucifix.
And I’m supposed to look at that and not even consider the spiritual implications?
Catholicism teaches that spiritual warfare is real.
It also teaches discernment.
I’m not claiming I witnessed a demon knock down a crucifix. There is no established evidence of a supernatural cause.
But I refuse to pretend the possibility of spiritual evil is something my faith requires me to dismiss.
And here’s another question.
IF A PRIEST REALLY WERE THE TARGET OF A DEMONIC ATTACK, WOULD THE CHURCH EVER PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE IT?
I have serious doubts.
The Church recognizes demonic activity, yet approaches alleged supernatural events with extreme caution.
Would authorities investigate a possible spiritual dimension, or would the entire conversation end with a loose mounting bracket?
I don’t know.
But I believe the question deserves to be asked.
And then there’s the bigger picture.
WHILE THE WORLD BURNS, ARE WE WATCHING THE END TIMES?
Look around.
Wars. Hatred. Religious persecution. Nations threatening nations. Humanity seemingly losing its fucking mind.
And now a Catholic priest dies at the altar, struck by a crucifix, moments after reportedly preaching about death.
I’m Catholic. I believe in spiritual warfare. I believe in Satan. I believe in the warnings of Scripture.
And I cannot help asking myself something I’m sure plenty of other Catholics have wondered lately.
ARE WE LIVING THROUGH THE END TIMES?
I’m not predicting the Second Coming next Tuesday.
Jesus Himself told us that nobody knows the day or hour.
But He also warned about wars, deception, persecution, and a world shaken by extraordinary events.
Matthew 24 speaks of wars and rumors of wars.
And Jesus also warns us not to be alarmed, because those events do not mean the end has arrived.
I know that.
But sometimes I look around at what humanity has become and wonder how much worse things can possibly get.
Maybe this priest’s death was a horrific accident.
Maybe there was something darker at work.
Maybe the timing of his final sermon and the falling crucifix was simply an extraordinary coincidence.
I don’t know.
But I do know that my faith doesn’t require me to dismiss the spiritual world simply because modern society finds it uncomfortable.
And perhaps the most unsettling question isn’t whether the end times are approaching.
IT’S WHETHER WE’D EVEN RECOGNIZE THE WARNINGS IF THEY WERE STARING US DIRECTLY IN THE FACE.
Because right now, the world feels like it’s burning.
And a priest reportedly just died beneath the image of Christ.
Jesus Christ.
If that doesn’t make you stop and think about your faith, your mortality, and the state of this world, I genuinely don’t know what will.
May Father Sánchez rest in eternal peace.
Requiescat in pace.
